knok, knok... who lives here??

In August 2023, when Netflix started to get boring, I was doomscrolling on Instagram and noticed that a lot of people who never talk about fantasy books (or any type of book) were showing off and praising a little romantasy book called Fourth Wing.

Everybody online was hyping it so much that I decided to give it a chance.

At first I was hooked. I was having so much fun, flipping pages non-stop. Then I read the ending and I was dumbstruck, so I preordered the sequel. And then I went to bed.

When I woke up, I started thinking about the story, and the more I thought about it, the sillier it seemed. I had a lot of fun with the ride, but it left me with a mental hangover.

I was OUTRAGED. I couldn’t believe that was the story that had everyone by their throats (then again, once upon a time Twilight was a thing too…). There had to be something better.

And so my quest to find amazing fantasy stories began, officially ending my 10+ year reading slump.

Credit where credit is due: Fourth Wing got me reading again. I’m still processing that… 😱

but first, let me introduce myself...

My name is Sara, but Sarix, my alter ego, is who runs this gig.

She is a tiny human-looking demon who feeds on sci-fi and fantasy and the ocasional horror stories, TV shows, movies, Animal Crossing, chocolate, and beer.

Sarix shares her home with Mia, a short-tempered, silver dragon disguised as a miniature schnauzer whose main job is to protect our lair from friendly neighbors.

Since the Fourth Wing invasion of 2023, Sarix has been looking for stories worth obsessing over. Some are all over BookTok. Others seem to have slipped through the cracks of the reading community (which is frankly rude considering how good they are).

She is not an English major or a literary geek, but she knows a good story (or at least a fun one) when she sees one.

And when Sarix get her hands on a good story, she has a hard time shutting up about it.

what this little literary journey has thought me...

It turns out that finding a book you love is much more exciting than being annoyed by one you didn’t.

And I’ve found so many books I LOVE. Books that made me cancel plans, lose sleep, and sit there staring at a wall after the last page because apparently I was supposed to just go back to my normal life. Books that made me question things I’d never thought twice about, or see the world a little differently.

Those are the stories I want to spend my time talking about here.

You’ll find fantasy, sci-fi, and a sometimes horror. Honest reviews, book recommendations,  and thoughts about what makes reading so much fun for me. From the emotionally damaged, morally conflicted individuals running shady businesses in the streets of Ketterdam to the strange worlds and questionable decisions waiting in books I haven’t discovered yet.

I’m happy to love a popular book. I’m also happy to recommend something that barely anyone seems to be talking about. Whether a book is everywhere or hiding in a dusty corner of the internet, I want to know what’s inside it.

And yes, I will probably complain about a glaring plot hole from time to time (I have opinions too!!) But I don’t particularly want to give books I didn’t like even more hours of my life when there are so many good ones to talk about.

A book doesn’t have to change my life to earn a place here, either. Sometimes a story gives me something to think about for weeks. Sometimes I just have a ridiculously good time reading it.

I want to tell you about both.

I don’t blog about everything I read, but I do review everything I read.
