In August 2023, when Netflix started to get boring, I was doomscrolling on Instagram and I saw that a lot of people who never talk about fantasy books (or any type of book) were showing off and praising a little romantasy book called Fourth Wing. Everybody online was hyping it so much that I decided to give it a chance. At first I was hooked. I was having so much fun, flipping pages non-stop. Then I read the ending and I was dumbstruck, so I preordered the sequel. And then I went to bed, and when I woke up I started thinking about the story, and the more I thought about it, the sillier it seemed. I had a lot of fun with the ride, but it left me with a mental hangover.

I was OUTRAGED. I couldn’t believe that was the trend for fantasy books, the story that had everyone by their throats (then again, once upon a time Twilight was a thing too…). There had to be something better. And so my search for amazing fantasy stories began, ending my 10+ year reading slump.

Now I want to talk about what I’ve found…

But first let me introduce myself:

My name is Sara, but Sarix, my alter ego, is who runs this gig. And since the Fourth Wing tragedy of 2023, she has made it her life’s mission to find the best sci-fi and fantasy novels BookTok can’t stop talking about, as well as the hidden gem fantasy books that slip through the cracks of the reading community — which are a lot.

She is not an English major or a literary geek, but she knows a good story (or at least a fun one) when she sees one.
